NCAA Swimming and Diving Committee Chair Talks to Swimming World About NCAA Ruling, FINA Impact Regarding Speedsuits

PHOENIX, Arizona, December 17. IN an exclusive interview with Swimming World, NCAA Swimming and Diving Committee Chair Tracy Huth, Oakland's Director of Athletics, spoke about the potential impact that any FINA ruling would have on NCAA's recent ruling regard speedsuits.

Last week, the NCAA announced that while speedsuits developed this year are still legal to use within NCAA competition, using more than one swimsuit or garment is not.

However, since that ruling, the swimming community has seen the bulk of European nations call for other restrictions somewhat in line with USA Swimming's proposal from last month as well.

With a FINA speedsuit summit being called in February, Swimming World wanted to check on what impact, if any, that meeting could have on the NCAA Championships being held in March.

Huth explained that while the NCAA will definitely be open to any decision made by FINA in February, as it is the international federation in charge of regulating the sport, the NCAA currently plans on continuing forward with its decision to keep speedsuits in play through the end of the season.

This likely continuation of regulations currently on the table is so that every team within the NCAA ranks has something concrete on which to plan through the championship season.
