NCAA Division II Championships: Drury Keeps Rolling To Team Titles; Ana Gonazalez Pena, Jun Han Kim Set NCAA DII Records

SAN ANTONIO, Texas, March 11. TWO more NCAA Division II records fell during night three of short course yard action at the NCAA Division II Championships.

The Drury women went into the final day with 363 points for the lead. Wayne State owned 252 points for second, while UC San Diego placed third with 247 points. Clarion (192) and Ashland (190) held fourth and fifth.

Drury built an insurmountable leading total of 463.5 points among the men, while UC San Diego held second with 254 points heading into tomorrow. Wayne State (220), Grand Canyon (208.5) and Wingate (193) comprised the rest of the top five.

Wayne State's Ana Gonzalez Pena clipped the women's 100 breast NCAA DII record with a strong time of 1:01.86. That time edged the 1:01.88 set by Rosanna Delurgio for UC San Diego back in 2003. Wayne State's Kayla Scott placed second in 1:02.09, while Drury's Monica Alvarez earned third in 1:02.20.

Drury's Jun Han Kim bettered the NCAA DII record in the men's 200 fly with a winning 1:42.99. That swim cleared the 1:43.30 set by Southern Connecticut's Ben Michaelson back in 2003. Grand Valley's Aaron Beebe placed second in 1:45.07, while Queens' Jeremy Gregory finished third in 1:45.13.

Bridgeport's Piotr Safronczyk snatched the men's 100 breast title in 53.05. Florida Southern's Miguel Ferreira (53.14) and Ashland's Cheyne Fisher (54.26) placed second and third. UCSD's Alexandra Henley turned in a 2:00.08 to win the women's 200 fly, while Southern Connecticut's Amanda Thomas placed second in 2:00.34. Indiana of Pennsylvania's Jaclyn Hynson finished third in 2:00.85.

Incarnate Word's Casey Hurrell-Zitelman won her third race of the meet with a 4:47.21 in the women's 500 free. Indianapolis' Maura Donahue finished second in 4:51.90, while Bridgeport's Sonia Perez Arau finished third in 4:55.31. Wingate's Iaroslav Denysenko captured the men's 500 free in 4:23.13, while Drury's Ryan Arabejo placed second in 4:24.75. Tampa's Christopher O'Linger earned third in 4:27.41.

Wayne State's Sara Franklin, who set the NCAA DII record in the women's 100 back with a 52.90 in relay action yesterday, ripped off a 53.28 to win the individual title tonight. Florida Southern's Mary O'Sullivan placed second in 54.00, while Ashland's Julie Widmann finished third in 55.15. Bridgeport's Oscar Pereiro touched first in the men's 100 back with a 47.59. Florida Southern's Jeffrey Halfacre finished second in 48.38, while Ouachita Baptist's Marcus Schlesinger wound up third in 48.93.

Incarnate Word's Justin McDonald topped Clarion's Logan Pearsall in the men's one-meter diving event, 503.40 to 500.10. St. Cloud State's Luke Weber took third with 485.60 points.

Drury's Tinsley Andrews, Erin Dolan, Ekaterina Alyayeva and Tiffany Van Dongen won the women's 800 free relay in 7:22.27. Drury also won the men's 800 free relay with Igor Kowal, Sergiy Bilov, Ryan Arabejo and Vladimir Sidorkin posting a 6:34.83.
