NCAA Div. I: Wisconsin Women’s Swimming and Diving Wins Three at Big Ten Quads

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The No. 15 Wisconsin women’s swimming and diving team defeated No. 20 Minnesota, 198-148, No. 22 Purdue, 185-164, and Illinois, 224-125, Saturday at the Big Ten Quads in West Lafayette, Ind. The Badgers improve to 6-2 on the year and 5-0 in Big Ten play.

UW picked up six first-place finishes in nine events. Bucky picked up wins in both relays, the 200 free and 400 free, and dominated both sprint and distance events. A day after winning the 1000 free, frosh Carly Piper (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) won the 500 free (4:50.60). Similarly, junior Jenny Lyman (Englewood, Colo.) won the 100 free (51.12) a day after winning the 100 free.

Sophomore Bethany Pendleton (Hood River, Ore.) was victorious in the 400 IM (4:22.55) and senior co-captain Andrea Wanezek tasted victory in the 100 fly(56.74).

In diving, senior sisters Megan and Siobhan Kernan (Westmont, N.J.) finished third and fourth, respectively, on the one-meter board. Megan scored 240.80 points while Siobhan tallied 239.05.

The Badgers return to the UW Natatorium next weekend for their final home meet of the season. Wisconsin takes on instate rivals UW-Milwaukee and UW-Green Bay at 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 8.
