ATLANTA – NC State had a strong night of scoring, taking a night three lead of more than 120 points, at the ACC Men’s Championships.

Virginia Tech’s Robert Owen clipped NC State’s Christian McCurdy in the men’s 400-yard IM to open the evening.  Owen won the finale with a 3:41.79 to 3:41.92 effort as both swimmers cleared the NCAA A cut.

Louisville’s Nolan Tesone finished third overall in 3:43.61, a time that is two seconds faster than what it took to get into the NCAA Championships last year.

Louisville’s Pedro Coutinho hit the wall in 45.92 to win the men’s 100-yard fly.  That swim just missed the NCAA A cut of 45.61, and came about half-a-second shy of Masayuki Kishida’s 2008 pool record of 45.20.

Florida State’s Connor Knight claimed second overall in 46.02 with North Carolina’s Sam Lewis rounding out the top three in 46.14.

N.C. State fired off a big salvo in the men’s 200-yard free with a huge 1-2-3 finish.  Simonas Bilis won in an NCAA A cut time of 1:33.62, while teammates Ryan Held (1:34.15) and David Williams (1:34.18) finished second and third. The event pushed the Wolfpack’s team scoring lead to more than 120 points.

Louisville’s Thomas Dahlia took down the meet record in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 52.36. That swim undercut the 52.59 set by Notre Dame’s Zachary Stephens in 2014.

NC State’s Derek Hren took second overall in 53.10, while Louisville’s Addison Bray wound up third in 53.16.  Duke’s Peter Kropp, who finished second overall, drew a disqualification. Kropp was 52.17 in prelims.

Louisville’s Grigory Tarasevich tracked down the men’s 100-yard back crown in 46.21, while NC State went 2-3 with Andreas Schiellerup (46.37) and Hennessey Stuart (46.42) taking second and third.

Louisville clipped the pool record in the men’s 400-yard medley relay with an NCAA A cut time of 3:06.06.

The foursome of Grigory Tarasevich (46.21), Thomas Dahlia (51.77), Pedro Coutinho (45.70) and Trevor Carroll (42.38) cleared the 2006 pool mark of 3:06.08 set by Arizona.

NC State’s Andreas Schiellerup (46.79), Derek Hren (52.84), Soeren Dahl (45.66) and Simonas Bilias (41.30) finished second in 3:06.59.

North Carolina’s Nic Graesser (46.30), Kurt Wohlrab (53.36), Sam Lewis (46.10) and Logan Heck (43.04) placed third in an NCAA A cut time of 3:08.80.
