NC State Men’s Swimming Adds Five More for 2011-12

RALEIGH, North Carolina, May 18. ASSOCIATE head coach Christopher "Woody" Woodard announced today the signing of five student-athletes to the NC State men's swimming program. Stephen Coetzer, Tyler Early, Chad Heiser, David Williams and Gerard Woody will all join the program as freshmen in 2011-12.

The group joins December signees Michael Camper, Billy Draves, Kyle Magee and John Newell.

"We are really excited to get this group of student-athletes on board," said Woodard. "They will address our needs and add serious depth to an already young roster. They bring a wealth of talent, but more importantly, a lot of potential."

Coetzer will make his way from the coast to Raleigh with high expectations. The 6'4" multi-event swimmer from Wilmington will look to continue his recent success as a junior national qualifier and finalist.

He will add strength and depth to the backstroke and freestyle events. A state high school finalist, Coetzer chose the Wolfpack over Ohio State, Virginia Tech and East Carolina.

Early, out of Glen Mills, Pa., will make an impact in the mid-distance freestyle events. Under coach Bruce Gemmell, Early excelled in short and mid-distance freestyle events. An All-America selection in high school and a junior national qualifier, he was selected to the all-state team in both his junior and senior seasons. Early will study criminology at NC State, having selected the Pack over Texas A&M.

Heiser travels up to Raleigh to join the Wolfpack from the nationally prominent SwimMac Carolina club team. He will add depth to the Pack's young, yet strong, breaststroke corps. In 2011 he collected the 3A state title in the 200 individual medley and earned the silver medal in the 100 breaststroke. He also qualified for junior nationals in both of his specialty events – the 100 and 20 breaststrokes. He will pursue a degree in computer science engineering.

Williams will head east on I-40 to join the Wolfpack via nearby Chapel Hill, and will provide versatility and depth to multiple events with the Wolfpack. The NCAC product will be a great addition to the strong mid-distance freestyle core already at NC State. He chose NC State over the Naval Academy and UNC Wilmington.

Hailing from York, Pa., Woody will strengthen the Wolfpack sprint freestyle nucleus. A junior national qualifier and three-time All-America selection, he was twice named swimmer of the year at Dallastown High School. Woody chose the Pack over West Virginia, Cincinnati, and UMass, and will major in communication.
