Nation’s Capital Blasts NAG (15-16) Record in 800-Yard Freestyle Relay
During a weekend that saw several impressive age-group performances around the country, the Nation’s Capital Swim Club put together a dominant showing in the 800-yard freestyle relay on Sunday, with the club shattering a National Age Group record in the 15-16 classification. The squad of Sophie Duncan, Camille Spink, Tatum Wall and Erin Gemmell combined for a time of 7:08.94, which obliterated the previous record of 7:13.99, which was held by another NCAP relay.
Duncan got the relay off to a strong start with an opening split of 1:48.79 and was followed by Spink’s split of 1:46.79. The third leg was handled by Wall, who covered her 200 yards in 1:48.16 and set the stage for Gemmell to drop the hammer. Gemmell closed the relay in an eye-popping 1:45.20. How fast was NCAP’s record? The team’s time was just more than a second off the NAG record in the 17-18 age class, the 7:07.82 mark by SwimMac Carolina from 2014.
