National Open of Montpellier: Femke Heemskerk Breaks Into Top Five in 100 Free

MONTPELLIER, France, February 5. THE final day of the National Open of Montpellier, a long course meter format meet this weekend, a handful of top swims went up on the scoreboard.

Femke Heemskerk moved to third in the world rankings in the women's 100 free with a time of 54.17, a time matched by Sarah Sjostrom at the Swedish Grand Prix in Uppsala today. Only Melanie Schlanger (53.87) and Amanda Weir (54.14) have been quicker this year. Inge Dekker finished second in 55.07 for a top 15 spot, while Beryl Gastaldello placed thirdin 56.48.

Camille Lacourt blazed through the men's 100 back with a winning time of 54.33. That swim is less than a second back of his third-ranked season best of 53.59 from the Nancy meet last month. Ryosuke Irie (53.32) and Matt Grevers (53.55) own the other sub-54 times so far this year. Dorian Gandin took second in 56.40, while Bilal Achelhi touched third in 59.99.

Andrea Baudry won the women's 50 breast in 32.54, while Carmella Kitching took second in 33.91. Adeline Williams placed third in 34.17. Nabil Kebbab topped the men's 50 breast in 29.02, while Geoffrey Ferrari touched second in 29.50. Cyril Bousquet picked up third in 29.87.

Claire Polit snared the women's 400 IM title in 5:05.87. Cindy Marcos (5:15.12) and Marie-Charlotte Mazoyer (5:15.52) rounded out the top three. Morad Berrada claimed the men's 400 IM crown in 4:35.95, while Damien Gwizdz took second in 4:39.10. Alexandre Redon wound up third in 4:39.59.

Laetitia Perez won the women's 100 back in 1:05.38. Marie Jugnet took second in 1:06.55, while Audrey Mingeaud earned third in 1:06.83. Marie Jugnet captured the women's 800 free in 9:05.01. Shrone Austin took second in 9:15.71, while Rebecca Matthews placed third in 9:17.43.

Xavier LePretre won the men's 1500 free in 15:53.98. Rahiti De Vos touched second in 15:56.54, while Romain Mrowinski picked up third in 16:03.23. Florent Manaudou closed out the meet with a 49.67 to win the men's 100 free. Nabil Kebbab touched second in 50.21, while Fabien Gilot earned third in 50.25.
