National Junior College Athletic Association: Trio of NJCAA Records Fall; Nearly First Sub 19 Second NJCAA Time; Indian River Remains In Lead

FORT PIERCE, Florida, March 8. THE National Junior College Athletic Association Swimming and Diving Championships continued through day two with Indian River State College remaining on top of the rest of the assembled squads. IRSC is pushing for its 38th and 31st straight men's and women's NJCAA team titles.

The Indian River women held a big lead after day two, 618-325, over Lincoln College. Daytona State College held third with 314 points, while Monroe (300) and Darton (281) were fourth and fifth. The IRSC men stood first with 619.5 points, while Daytona State held second with 414 points. Lincoln (343.5), Darton (281.5) and Monroe (205) rounded out the top five.

IRSC's Natalie Lenderman, Tryshia Centeno, Chandel Domaso and Maria Munoz raced to victory in the women's 200 free relay to open up the night. They clocked a 1:33.17, while Daytona State (1:34.01) and Lincoln (1:39.37) finished second and third.

IRSC's Bradley Tandy, Logan Mosley, Luis Flores and Caleb Weir broke the NJCAA record in the men's 200 free relay with a 1:17.70. That swim crushed the 1:18.78 set by IRSC in 2009. DSC (1:22.60) and Lincoln (1:23.13) earned second and third. Tandy set the NJCAA record in the men's 50 free with a 19.06 leadoff. That swim bettered the 19.43 set by Emmett Walling of IRSC in 2009.

Indian River went 1-2 in the women's 500 free as Courtney Parenti (5:00.04) and Hallie Petersohn (5:01.44) grabbed the first two finishes. DSC's Sophie Drake finished third overall in 5:03.11. IRSC's Bryan Clarke followed with a 4:33.46 to win the men's 500 free. DSC's Takashi Worrell (4:34.77) and Dominic Walter (4:35.36) completed the top three.

IRSC's Tryshia Centeno earned her second victory of the night with a 2:01.20 in the women's 200 IM. That performance smashed the NJCAA record of 2:04.37 she set a year ago. Darton's Anna Macht placed second in 2:04.64, while IRSC's Solyvette Lizardi wound up third in 2:06.35. IRSC's Edwin Angjeli took home the men's 200 IM in 1:50.06. Teammate Jared Pike took second in 1:51.43, while ICCC's Goran Koprivnjak picked up third in 1:54.99.

IRSC's Natalie Lenderman touched out DSC's Ashly Isaacson, 23.50 to 23.61, for the women's 50 free title. IRSC's Chandel Domaso placed third overall in 23.97. IRSC went 1-2-3 in the men's 50 free, with Bradley Tandy just missing the NJCAA record 19.06 he set during the 200 free relay. Tandy won in 19.18, while Caleb Weir took second in 19.84 and Luis Flores earned third in 20.01.
