Missy Franklin Ranked 4th Most Marketable Athlete by SportsPro

Missy Franklin continues to skyrocket through the rankings of the best athletes in the world, as evidenced by her latest marketability rankings by SportsPro.

Just a year ago, Franklin ranked eighth in the world in the SportsPro Rankings.

This year Franklin jumped up to fourth overall.

When NBC executives sit down over the coming months to discuss plans for the broadcast of Rio 2016, a first summer Olympic Games in an American time zone in 20 years, there will be plenty of long conversations. Then there will be one short one: Missy Franklin will be the face of their coverage.

She will appeal to those atop ‘the Peacock’, who have spent so many billions on television rights, for the same reason she appeals to so many Americans and, by extension, so many brands. Here is a clean-cut, clean-living and conscientious young woman, who brings a media profile and the promise of gold in the kind of quantities that once inspired a fevered trail to her native California. Four wins at London 2012, and six at the 2013 world championships, are evidence of a monumental talent.

Because the Americans value their athletes and help them achieve commercial success. In the UK we have the talent but they are supported by lottery funding. And when they have a bad year to save face they cut the funding: – Genius!!
