Minnesota Gophers Announce 2016-17 Competition Schedule

The 2016-17 University of Minnesota swimming and diving schedule, announced Thursday, July 14th, will feature eight home events.

The first of those events at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center is the Golden Gophers’ annual alumni meet on Friday, Sept. 30. The 6 p.m. meet will pit current and former Gophers against each other in an exhibition event. The evening’s festivities will include recognition for Minnesota Aquatics Hall of Fame inductees.

Minnesota will open regular-season competition in Tallahassee against Florida State and Duke on Saturday, Oct. 8. The Gophers return home to host Wisconsin in a dual meet onThursday, Oct. 13, the first of a series of home meets.

Next, Iowa will visit Minneapolis for a men’s dual on Friday, Oct. 28 and a women’s dual the next day. A dual against North Dakota (Nov. 4) and the Minnesota Invitational (Nov. 10-12) round out the home stretch.

Minnesota’s divers will travel to Indianapolis, Ind., for IUPUI’s Nov. 17-20 invitational. The fall semester schedule will conclude with AT&T Winter Nationals in Atlanta (Nov. 30-Dec. 3) and the Gophers’ own Jean Freeman Invitational (Dec. 2-3) overlapping.

During their winter training trip, the Gophers will face Hawai’i in a dual meet on Jan. 7. A meet at Denver (Jan. 13-14), a triple dual at Purdue with Northwestern (Jan. 27-28) and a final home meet in the Minnesota Challenge (Feb. 3-4) will lead into the championship portion of the season.

The women’s Big Ten Championships are slated for Feb. 15-18 in West Lafayette, Ind. The men will compete in their conference meet Feb. 22-25 in Columbus, Ohio. NCAA Zone Diving will take place March 6-8 in Columbia, Mo.

Both teams look to cap their seasons at NCAA Championships in Indianapolis. The women’s championships run March 15-18, with the men following March 22-25.
