Midland University announced Tuesday that it will add men’s and women’s diving programs and hired Peter Charles as its diving coach.

Midland is an NAIA program in Nebraska that began offering swimming in 2017. Its men’s team placed four at the 2020 NAIA Championships with its women’s team 20th. The addition of a diving squad is a boon for placement at that meet.

Charles has spent more than 20 years on the club scene as the owner and head coach of Omaha Dive Club. He’s also coached in high school at Bellevue West. Charles’ pupils include five Nebraska state champion and numerous USA Nationals qualifiers.

“We are beyond excited to have Coach Charles on the staff,” Midland University swimming and diving head coach Ryan Bubb said in a university statement. “With his over 20 years of experience in coaching diving, we can say that we have one of the top diving coaches in the NAIA. The addition of diving will take our program to the next level to continue our pursuit of excellence on the national stage.”
