Mid-American Championships: Day Three

YPSILANTI, Michigan, March 6. THE Eastern Michigan men's swimming and diving team continued its dominance within the MAC by winning the 2010 Championship for its fourth consecutive championship with a score of 773 points at the Michael H. Jones Natatorium in Ypsilanti, Mich.

The Eagles won the 2010 MAC Championship with a team score of 773 points, followed by Buffalo with 613.5 points, while Missouri State (587) and Miami (574.5) finished third and fourth respectfully. Eastern Michigan leads the conference and has won 29 men's swimming & diving championships, including a conference-best 17 consecutive championships from 1980-96. The Eagles have won 10 of the last 11 conference championships.

Buffalo started the evening and won the first two events. In the 200 Yard Backstroke, Buffalo freshman Matt Schwippert set a meet and MAC record with a finals time of 1:45.23. In the 100 Yard Freestyle, Buffalo sophomore Jared Heine won the event and hit the wall with a time of 44.67.

Eastern Michigan rebounded and controlled the next four consecutive events. In the 200 Yard Breaststroke, Eastern Michigan senior Scott Murphy set a MAC record and Meet record with a finals time of 1:59.27. In the 200 Yard Butterfly, Eastern Michigan junior Owen Grey won the event with a finals time of 1:49.82. In the three meter diving competition, Eastern Michigan freshman Jeffrey Craig won with a finals total of 356.95. In the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay, the Eastern Michigan tandem of Justin Griggs, Jacob Hanson, Keith Coghlan and Matthew Zavislak hit the wall with a finals time of 2:59.43.

In the final event of the evening, the 1650 Yard Freestyle, Miami freshman Alex Reinhardt set the finals mark with a time of 15:39.34.
