Michael Phelps referred to Nicole Johnson as his “fiancée” throughout the summer as he prepared for and competed at his fifth Olympic Games, but a marriage license shows that the two were married in secret June 13 in Paradise Valley, Ariz.

Peter Carlisle, Phelps’ agent for the past 15 years, officiated the ceremony. Boomer Phelps, Phelps and Johnson’s son born in May of this year, was also present. A photo on Johnson’s Instagram account from June 13 of her, Phelps and Boomer is captioned “such a memorable night with my lil fambam.”

The two had indicated they planned to wed later this year, and it’s still possible that a larger ceremony will be held at some point.

First question that comes to mind….WHY would he deny he is married?

don’t know why he would deny it if there is a marriage certificate, but they obviously wanted to keep it quiet as it was in the time frame he was training for Rio. I follow Nicole on Instagram and they are planning a wedding. I”m assuming that will be a media frenzy. Really can’t blame him.

Aimee Trout-Foster True. I completely understand about keeping the focus on RIO, etc. But maybe the headline is inaccurate or typical media….but he really shouldn’t be denying it now. He should be proud and happy. And least that’s the way I would hope it would be. 🙂

It is sort of strange, once the hype of Rio was over that he would keep denying it. He has said on his Facebook live posts that he isn’t married.

If they had only made the announcement I would have sent them a toaster.

He probably hid it so the media wouldn’t focus on it during Rio

@MichaelPhelps haha awesome!

Who cares…He is the best Olympian of all times and I love him for that. Leave him alone. He wanted to focus in Rio. Plus, he also was criticized for being a “dad to be” while prepping for Rio, obviously people was going to criticize him also for being a newlywed saying “how dare he gets married weeks before the games” and if he wouldn’t have done awesome it would have been a catastrophe and people would have blamed Nicole for his failure. Let him be.

Seriously, how about a little respect for their privacy. Do we really need to know every detail of their personal life?

It would have been weird if not for the Rio Olympics. But that he didn’t announce it soon after the Olympics, makes it weird now. I hope all is well with him and his family. I would love to see him become a lasting role model.
