Michael Hampel has announced his verbal commitment to the University of Louisville. The breaststroker is from the state of Kentucky. He swims for the Owensboro Marlins and Owensboro Catholic High School.

Hampel is a breaststroker and IMer. In his best events, his lifetime best times were set just last spring. The high school senior also had an exceptional long course season, highlighted by a Futures Title in the 100 breaststroke in August.

Hampel’s best yards times:

100/200 Breaststroke: 56.30/2:03.67

200/400 IM: 1:53.70/4:02.92

At the 2016 ACC Championships, the Cards left Greensboro as the runner up to the NC State Wolfpack. Hampel’s times still put him a bit outside scoring range. (It took a 55.63 to score in the 100 breaststroke.) But, with another year of training and continued success he saw in his junior season, Hampel could move up to make an impact for the Cardinals.

Nick Albiero, son of Head Coach Arthur, also given his commitment to be a member of the Class of 2021 last spring.
