Indie’s Michael Andrew put up some sizzling times for a 16-and-under swimmer with a pair of top seeds, while Ozaukee’s Katie Drabot set herself up for several title opportunities tonight at the 2016 NCSA Junior Nationals.

Prelims are being swum in short course yards, while finals are being contested in long course meters.

Women’s 200 free

City of Mobile’s Paige Madden led the way with a lifetime-best effort of 1:45.68.  CSP Tideriders’ Genevieve Pfeifer clocked a 1:45.92 to earn the second seed heading into tonight.

Ozaukee’s Katie Drabot, who is heading to Stanford after her senior year, qualified third in 1:46.42.

Xcel’s Riley Gaines, just 15, was the youngest swimmer to make the top eight as she qualified fourth in 1:47.63.

Grosse Pointe Gators’ Alexis Wenger, who set the 13-14 100 breast NAG record here last year, put up a 28.54 to qualify fourth. Now 15, Wenger is looking at a new set of marks to chase.

Halle Morris (28.94), Anna Shumate (29.01), Ema Rajic (29.02) and Madeleine Vonderhaar (29.02) rounded out the top eight.

Men’s 50 breast

In the most high-profile rivalry of the meet, Indie’s Michael Andrew turned in the top seed with a 24.24, while Penn Charter’s Reece Whitley posted a 24.69.  The two 16 year olds will battle tonight in the long course version of the sprint.

Although USA Swimming does not track 50-yard stroke events for National Age Group records, the Swims Database does have some of those times.  Andrew previous was the second-fastest 16-and-under with a 24.74, but his time far surpassed the listed top time of 24.68 from Max McHugh from a month ago.  Whitley, meanwhile, moved up to an unofficial third.
