Michael Andrew, who recently signed with adidas as the second American to sign behind Allison Schmitt, took plenty of time out to explain how to properly pronounce “adidas” from a foreign standpoint.

The pronunciation, as one can hear in this video, is much different than the Americanized pronunciation of the brand that has stood in the U.S. since Run DMC first made it a national brand back in 1986 with the rap song entitled My Adidas.

When I was a soccer player, I learned that there were two Dassler brothers, both sons of a father who worked for a time in a shoe factory. One, Rudolf, founded Puma (which were the soccer shoes I wore). The other, Adolf, founded Adidas. They definitely did not get along. Although buried in the same cemetery, they are placed as far apart as possible.
