Michael Andrew is continuing his whirlwind of a year as he broke the American Record in the 50 fly on the last night of the 2018 FINA World Cup in Singapore. Andrew swam a 22.32 to break the record formerly held by Tom Shields (22.38) from the 2016 World Championships in Windsor.

Andrew moved up to 14th all-time in the event as he now sits in front of Spain’s Rafael Muñoz and Russia’s Evgeny Korotyshkin (22.33).

Andrew finished second in the final behind Russia’s Vladimir Morozov (22.17), who moved up to seventh all-time in the event in a tie with France’s Fred Bousquet. Morozov was the overall World Cup winner for 2018. Singapore’s Joseph Schooling (22.40) finished third in front of his home fans in Singapore.

Andrew now holds three of the four 50’s American Records in short course meters. The only one remaining is the 50 free, which Anthony Ervin holds at 20.85.
