OXFORD, Ohio – Miami University head swimming and diving coach Hollie Bonewit-Cron announced the hiring of Jake Larson as an assistant coach on Tuesday.

Larson comes to Miami from St. Cloud State University, where he served as the Graduate Assistant Swim Coach while pursuing a Master of Science in College Counseling and Student Development. Larson earned his master’s degree in 2018. Larson organized all training and workouts for the sprint group as well as practice and dryland workout schedules. He also provided nutrition and dieting information to the athletes. During Larson’s two years as a graduate assistant, the team was 2017 NSIC Conference Champions, had 10 NCAA Division II individual qualifiers and set nine new school records.

“I am thrilled to have Jake round out our talented staff of coaches,” said Bonewit-Cron. “Jake’s expertise as an athlete and as a coach is a great addition to our competitive philosophy that will continue the development of our student-athletes in the pool and the classroom. We look forward to his tenure with the RedHawk Swimming & Diving program.”

Before coaching at St. Cloud State, Larson served as a Camp Coach at Stanford University & Nike Sports Camps. He also was an Assistant Swim Coach at the University of Wisconsin La Crosse during the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons, where he was in charge of recruiting, travel, lineups and workouts. Larson was the Assistant Senior Age Group Coach at La Crosse Area Family YMCA during his first year at the University of Wisconsin La Crosse. His first coaching position was serving as the Assistant Girls Swim and Dive Coach at Holdingford High School, beginning in August 2013.

Larson earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from St. Cloud State University in 2014. While studying at St. Cloud, Larson was a two-time team captain in addition to setting two school records and being named NSIC All-Conference on seven occasions.
