The Alabama Crimson Tide (No. 11 men, No. 22 women) had a strong showing against Georgia Tech to wrap up their regular season. The Crimson Tide men won 199-99, while the Alabama women downed the Yellow Jackets 191-106.

The Georgia Tech women started off strong, taking the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:44.19, just four-hundredths of a second ahead of Alabama’s top team. The Yellow Jackets relay consisted of backstroker Maddie Paschal, breaststroker Florin Ilie, butterflier Laura Branton and freestyler Iris Wang.

The Crimson Tide took the men’s race by over two seconds. The team of backstroker Connor Oslin, breaststroker Pavel Romanov, butterflier Kristian Gkolomeev and freestyler Alex Gray touched in 1:27.26. Alabama’s B relay finished second and Georgia Tech took third.

Mia Nonnenberg led the way for the Alabama women, scoring 21 individual points. The sophomore placed first in the 1000-yard freestyle (9:58.51) and the 400-yard individual medley (4:18.99). She also touched third in the 200-yard butterfly (2:03.04).

On the men’s side, Laurent Bams scored 18 points for the Crimson Tide. Bams, who joined the Alabama team in January, won the 100-yard freestyle (43.66) and 100-yard butterfly (47.69). Brent Sagert also tallied 18 points for Alabama. The junior won both the 1-meter (312.50) and 3-meter (352.70) diving competitions.

Shannon Lumbra was the leading scorer for the Yellow Jacket women. The senior placed first in the women’s 1-meter (290.90) and 3-meter (293.60) diving competitions. Sophomore Moises Loschi set the pace for the Georgia Tech men, winning the 200-yard breaststroke (2:00.31) and touching second in the 100-yard event (55.77).

The day wrapped up with the 200-yard freestyle relay.

In the women’s race, Alabama swam all three of its relays as exhibition. Though the event win technically went to Georgia Tech, the Crimson Tide posted the race’s fastest time. The team of Temarie Tomley, Hannah Musser, Emma Saunders and Justine Panian touched in 1:33.81.

Like in the women’s race, the Crimson Tide posted the event’s fastest time as an exhibition team. Luke Kaliszak, Brett Walsh, Gray and Gkolomeev teamed up to post a 1:20.72, what would have won the race by over two seconds.
Alabama is back in action on Feb. 16 at the Southeastern Conference Championships.
