The first final of the 2018 TYR Pro Swim Series in Austin went the way of Melanie Margalis representing Georgia’s post grad group and Natalie Coughlin‘s swim squad. Margalis won the 400 IM on Thursday night in Austin with a 4:37.43 to run away from the field in the final. Margalis’s time was a quick start to the 2018 season as the United States is lacking a little internationally in the 400 IM on the women’s side. Margalis has been a solid contributor the last few years.
Swimming in her home pool, Madisyn Cox finished in second at 4:42.22 as she finished well ahead of the rest of the field as well. NC State’s Hannah Moore used her solid freestyle leg to finish in third at 4:47.40. Cox was also representing Coughlin’s Swim Squad.
Texas A&M’s Bethany Galat (4:48.50), Texas’ Evie Pfeifer (4:48.77), Monika Gonzalez-Hermosillo (4:48.82), Sophie Cattermole (4:50.98) and Esther Gonzalez Medina (4:56.26) also swam in the championship final.
