Melanie Margalis and Madisyn Cox Post Sub-2:10’s in 200 IM Final

Melanie Margalis and Madisyn Cox went toe to toe over the back half of the 200 IM to post two times ranked in the top four this year. Margalis swam the third fastest time in the world for 2017 with a 2:09.57 to sit just behind Hungary’s Katinka Hosszu (2:08.49) and Canada’s Sydney Pickrem (2:09.56). Margalis picks up her first individual event for Budapest after finishing in third in the 200 free on Wednesday. Cox will join her for her first World Championship appearance as she swam the fourth fastest time of 2017 with a 2:09.69.

Cox held off Stanford’s Ella Eastin for second at 2:10.89. Eastin was second in the 400 IM on Thursday but was disqualified in the race for pushing off on her back on the last 50 of freestyle. Alex Walsh (2:12.36), Bethany Galat (2:12.66), Emma Barksdale (2:13.47), Brooke Forde (2:14.18) and Rachael Bradford-Feldman (2:14.54) also swam in the A-final
