Melanie Margalis Among Winners at Day Three of Athens Sectionals

Day three of the Long Course Speedo Sectionals in Athens, GA saw a variety of swimmers posting top times.

Leah Stevens clocked a 4:13.82 to claim first in the women’s 400-meter free. Hannah Moore finished second with a 4:16.42, while Verity Abel took third with a 4:18.88.

Matias Koski rose to first in the men’s 400-meter free with a final time of 3:50.97, dropping 4.81 seconds from his prelims time of 3:55.78. Kevin Litherland was second overall with a 3:51.14, while Bobby Hurley rounded out the top three with a 3:53.77.

Hellen Moffit was triumphant in the women’s 100-meter fly being the only woman to go under the one-minute mark with a time of 59.29. Maddie Rusch finished second with a 1:00.68, while Courtney Weaver was third with a 1:01.10.

With Ryan Lochte and Tim Phillips scratching the evening session the playing field opened up. Geoff Cheah moved up to claim first with a 53.38, while Aaron Whitaker turned in a 53.51 for second. Josh Quallen finished third with a 53.87.

Melanie Margalis turned in a quick 1:07.35 in the women’s 100-meter breaststroke to claim the win, dropping 1.48 seconds from her prelims time of 1:08.83. Micah Lawrence finished second overall with a 1:08.28, while Kayla Brumbaum rounded out the top three with a 1:10.33.
