In August 2015, McKendree University announced that it would be starting a swim team in the 2016-2017 season. It was also announced that Jimmy Tierney would be heading the program. The team’s inaugural class arrived on campus this fall. Tierney wasted no time continuing to build the program.

Chase Seal has given his verbal commitment to be a member of the Class of 2021.

Seal told Swimming World, “The team has so much energy, the campus is beautiful and I feel right at home! Go Bearcats!”

Seal goes to Magnolia West High School in Magnolia, Texas and swims for the Magnolia Aquatic Club. He is primarily a distance freestyler. When he was 14, Seal posted a 9:49.74 in the 1000 and a 16:50.35 in the 1650. USA Swimming has no record of him racing the 1650 since then though he has remained around that 1000 time in the past three years.

At the 2016 NCSA Championships, Seal went a lifetime best 4:40.58 in the 500. He also finished 11th in the 200 freestyle with a best time of 1:45.62 at the Texas 5A State Championships last February.

The team will be a member of the Division II Great Lakes Valley Conference. At the 2016 Championship, it took a 4:42 to score in the 500 and a 9:42 to finish top 16 in the 1000. Swimming in the consolation final of the 200 freestyle required a 1:42.29.
