Mary T Meagher Dives Deep On Career During Inside With Brett Hawke Podcast

An argument can be made that at the height of her career, no one dominated their specialty events like Mary T Meagher. And now, the woman known as “Madame Butterfly,” can be found reflecting on her career and the sport during a 50-minute interview with the Inside with Brett Hawke Podcast.

Meagher is the latest big-name athlete to chat with Hawke, the two-time Australian Olympian who has turned his podcast into the best in the business. Episode after episode, Hawke has used his high-level interviewing ability to highlight the careers of current and former standouts. Meagher certainly ranks as one of the best to dive into the pool.

Meagher’s visit with Hawke was taped just before she traveled to Fort Lauderdale for the 57th International Swimming Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Meagher was on hand to celebrate the enshrinement of Craig Beardsley, her 1980 Olympic teammate. Meagher, Glenn Mills and John Moffet were driving forces in generating a stellar turnout for Beardsley.

During the interview with Hawke, Meagher weighs in on a variety of topics, ranging from the boycott of the 1980 Games to winning triple gold at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. Hawke and Meagher discuss her world-record performances, which included a 2:05.96 mark in the 200 fly which endured for nearly two decades, and her jump from the 59-second realm in the 100 fly to cracking the 58-second barrier.
