Martin Bau Completes Distance Sweep of Slovenian Championships

A number of swimmers had repeat podium finishes again today, in the fourth and final night of finals at the 2016 Slovenian Championships.

Martin Bau completed the distance sweep with his 15:44.83 in today’s 1500. His margin of victory was significant again today. Amar Sven Saemudsson touched second in 16:02.89. Marcel Primozic was third in 16:05.82.

The men’s 50 freestyle was a tight battle. Mislav Sever got to the wall in 22.55, just before Mario Todorovic in 22.57. Anton Latkin completed the podium with his 22.82.

Not to be outdone, the women delivered an even closer race. Flora Molnar and Anemari Kosak tied for gold, both touching in 26.16. Miroslava Najdanovski was just a hair behind in 26.25 for third.

Artur Osvath claimed victory in the men’s 200 breaststroke with his 2:15.23. Aljaz Kerc finished runner up in 2:17.44 and Matina Moze was third with a 2:18.46.

Tara Vovk finished well ahead of the field in the women’s 200 breaststroke, touching in 2:31.87. Petja Hribar out touched Tina Celik 2:40.57 to 2:40.69 for second place.

It was another close call in the men’s 100 butterfly. Sebastjan Sabo improved his second place 50, winning the 100 in 53.81. Yesterday’s 50 champion Mario Todorovic finished second today in 53.88. Third place was Matjaz Rozman in 57.05.

Nastja Govejsek continued the momentum from her 50 butterfly gold to win today’s 100 in 1:01.27. Diana Naglic touched second in 1:02.73. Kaja Balant Marin rounded out the podium in 1:03.62.

The meet closed out with another tight race, this time in the womens’ 1500. Sara Racnik stopped the clock in 17:04.33, just ahead of Mojca Hancman in 17:06.76. Gaja Kristan placed third with a 17:18.91.
