THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – On Wednesday, the Maritime Men’s & Women’s Swimming & Diving team schedules were announced for the 2016-17 season. Under the direction of Head Coach Peter Vecchio, who will be entering his 16th season at the helm of the teams, the men’s program will look to make Skyline Conference history with its 10th consecutive league championship in late January.

The year begins on November 1, as the Privateers will travel to New Jersey for a non-conference date with William Paterson for a swimming and diving contest. The Privateers will open the home schedule for a swimming and diving meet with Lehman at 6 p.m. on November 3.

Skyline Conference competition opens up on November 7, when Maritime visits Purchase in Westchester County. A week later, the Privateers will host Old Westbury on November 14 for a 6 p.m. start at home inside the Riesenberg Aquatic Center.

On Friday, November 18, Maritime will host a tri-meet for the women’s team with Sarah Lawrence and St. Joseph’s (LI) with a 7 p.m. start time. In addition to the women’s competition, the men’s team will also go head-to-head with Sarah Lawrence.

The following day Maritime will travel to Kings Point, N.Y. to take part in the Merchant Marine Invitational, which features several top teams from throughout the region. In addition to the invitational format, the scores between the Privateers and host Mariners will count for their Skyline Conference records.

On December 2, Maritime will host Mount St. Mary in both men’s and women’s swimming competition, while the women’s team will also meet with St. Joseph’s (LI) for the second time during the season before heading into the winter break.

Coming back in the spring semester, Maritime will open up the schedule with St. Joseph’s (Bklyn), as the women’s team and the men’s teams will compete in Skyline Conference action. This will be the first season for the Bears Men’s Swimming program.

The final tune-up before the Skyline Conference Championship meet will take place inside the Riesenberg Aquatic Center as the Privateers will welcome in the Knights of Division II Queens College, as well as the Cardinals of York (NY). The meet is set for 6 p.m. and will feature both swimming and diving competition.

Maritime’s men’s team will look to become the first team in any sport to win 10 consecutive titles in Skyline Conference history on Friday January 27, and Saturday, January 28 at the league championship meet, which will be hosted by Purchase College. The women’s team will also look to improve upon their fifth place finish from a season ago.

Following the Skyline Conference Championships, the Privateers will be travelling to the New Paltz Invitational in New Paltz, N.Y. The new meet on this season’s schedule features some of the top teams from throughout the Hudson Valley.

After the trip upstate, the Privateers will cap off the 2016-17 season with the 2017 Metropolitan Conference Championships from February 17-19 at Rutgers University. Both the men’s and women’s swimming teams will look to improve upon their standings from last season’s championships.
