Spencer Carl has given the University of Louisville his verbal commitment. Carl swims for Michigan Lakeshore Aquatics. He is a fairly versatile swimmer.

The high school senior’s best events are:

  • 100 Fly 48.12
  • 200 Fly 1:47.63
  • 200 Free 1:37.15
  • 100 Back 50.50
  • 200 Back 1:51.68

In the last year he has dropped three seconds in his 200 freestyle and a half second in the 100 butterfly. Carl was the Michigan Lower Peninsula Division 1 High School state champion in the 200 freestyle (1:37.15). The Holland West Ottawa swimmer also set the Division 1 record on his way to gold in the 100 butterfly with a 48.12.

At Junior Nationals this summer Carl was a finalist in both butterfly events. He finished 114th in the 100 butterfly at Olympic Trials this summer.

Louisville finished second at the 2016 ACC Championships. At last year’s meet Carl would have scored points for the Cardinals in the C final in the 200 freestyle and 100 and 200 butterfly.
