Logan Storie Breaks Modern Pentathlon American Record at US Nationals

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado, October 31. THE Modern Pentathlon US National Championships were held at the Colorado Springs Olympic Training Center this past weekend. At the event, swimmer Logan Storie broke the Modern Pentathlon American Record in the 200-meter swim portion.

Modern Pentathletes have a single day to compete in five events: epee fencing, a 200 meter swim, equestrian show jumping and a combined run and shooting competition. Pierre de Coubertin invented the Modern Pentathlon with the vision of imitating what a Calvary soldier goes through.

It was the first time Storie competed in a pentathlon competition. He found the combined run and shooting event at the end the most challenging.

“It's a different sport from standing and shooting then from running as fast as you can for 1000m and shooting five times, and I found that out today,” Storie commented.

Storie has a history with the pool. He competed for the University of Florida from 2007-2011 and swam at the 2008 and 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials. According to the USA Swimming website, his lifetime best in the 200 free was 1:52.04 from the 2012 Olympic Trials.

Storie will have expectations going into the next competition, after clocking a record-breaking swim. He touched the wall at a 1:55.30.

“It's an amazing feeling,” Storie commented to media about breaking the American record. “There aren't clocks on the side and there are no coaches like normal swimming so you don't know what your pace is. You just have to go by feel. [The] first 100 I felt real solid and my goal was to build from there. It definitely hurt the last 50 so I knew I was either out of shape or going really fast.”
