The Americans, favored in both relays, will go with their “B” teams in prelims and then bring out entirely new lineups for the final. For the women, Olivia SmoligaKatie MeiliSarah Gibson and Mallory Comerford will compete.

Meili was the silver medalist behind fellow American Lilly King in the 100 breast, while Smoliga and Comerford each finished fourth in their 100-meter events.

Australia will also go with a “B” team for the women’s relay, with Holly BarrattJessica HansenBrianne Throssell and Shayna Jack scheduled to compete. China’s team, however, should be close to its best, and Canada leads off with 100 back world record-setter Kylie Masse.

On the men’s side, Ryan MurphyCody MillerTim Phillips and Townley Haas will swim. Murphy and Miller actually swam in the finals of this relay at the Rio Olympics, but Matt Grevers and Kevin Cordes will handle those responsibilities in Budapest.

Caeleb Dressel is expected to handle the fly leg in finals and Nathan Adrian the free. Dressel is the World Champ in both the 100 free and 100 fly, but the presence of veteran relay anchor Adrian makes the decision on where to put Dressel an easy choice.

Great Britain will go with Chris Walker-HebbornRoss MurdochJames Guy and Duncan Scott in the morning. That team would itself be a medal contender in the final, but adding in 100 breast world record-holder Adam Peaty makes the Brits the only legitimate challenger to an American gold.

For Australia, Mitch Larkin leads off and Cameron McEvoy anchors, while Japan should have a strong opening two legs with Ryosuke Irie and Yasuhiro Koseki.
