King, Haughey, Freund Named Big Ten Swimmers of the Week

The Big Ten conference has announced its weekly honorees for the past week, including swimmers Lilly King of Indiana, Siobhan Haughey of Michigan and Kaelan Freund of Penn State. Read about all award recipients below.

Female Co-Swimmer of the Week
Lilly King, Indiana
Jr. – Evansville, Ind., – F.J. Reitz

  • Recorded five first place finishes and four NCAA B Standard qualifying times in Indiana’s meet against No. 18 Florida
  • Clocked the top time in the nation in the 100 breaststroke (59.46) and 200 medley relay (1:37.30)
  • Earns her fifth career Swimmer of the Week and the first of the season
  • Last Indiana Swimmer of the Week: Lilly King (Nov. 16, 2016)

Female Co-Swimmer of the Week
Siobhan Haughey, Michigan
Jr. – Hong Kong – St. Paul’s Secondary School

  • Earned six first place finishes against No. 9 Louisville
  • Won the 200-yard freestyle with an NCAA A Standard qualifying time (1:44.58) and won the 100-yard freestyle with an NCAA B Standard time (48.23)
  • Earns her sixth career Swimmer of the Week and the third of the season
  • Last Michigan Swimmer of the Week: Siobhan Haughey (Oct. 18, 2017)

Female Co-Diver of the Week
Jessica Parratto, Indiana
Jr. – Dover, N.H.

  • Placed first in the 1-meter event and second in the 3-meter event in Indiana’s meet against No. 18 Florida
  • Scored NCAA zone qualifying scores in both events in the first meet of the season, posting 302.85 on the 1-meter and 332.85 on the 3-meter
  • Earnsher third career Diver of the Week award and the first of the season
  • Last Indiana Diver of the Week: Taylor Pamplin (Nov. 16, 2016)

Female Co-Diver of the Week
Olivia Rosendahl, Northwestern
Jr. – Los Angeles, Calif. – Immaculate Heart

  • Placed first on the 1-meter and second in the 3-meter event in Northwestern’s meet against No. 4 Georgia and Georgia Tech
  • Posted NCAA zone qualifying scores for both events in both meets, scoring as high as 300.30 on the 1-meter and 318.68 on the 3-meter
  • Earns her fourth career Diver of the Week award and the first of the season
  • Last Northwestern Diver of the Week: Olivia Rosendahl (Jan. 25, 2017)

Female Freshman of the Week
Grace Haskett, Indiana
Bedford, Ind. – Bloomington South

  • Earned three first place finishes in Indiana’s meet against No. 18 Florida
  • Clocked the top time in the nation and earned an NCAA B Standard cut at 1:37.30 in the 200 medley relay
  • Earns her first career Freshman of the Week award
  • Last Indiana Freshman of the Week: Lilly King (Jan. 27, 2016)

Male Swimmer of the Week
Kaelan Freund, Penn State
So. – Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada – Chinook

  • Recorded an NCAA B Standard qualifying time in the 100 breaststroke (54.20), the fastest 100 breaststroke time in the nation this season
  • Placed first in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke (2:00.34), as well as the 200 IM (1:49.71) and the 200 medley relay (1:28.91) in Penn State’s dual meet against Virginia
  • Earns his first career Swimmer of the Week honor
  • Last Penn State Swimmer of the Week: Shane Ryan (Jan. 25, 2017)

Male Diver of the Week
Steele Johnson, Purdue
Jr. – Carmel, Ind. – Laurel Springs

  • Earned two first place finishes in Purdue’s dual meet at Miami (Ohio)
  • Recorded NCAA zone qualifying marks in the 1- and 3-meter events scoring 321.30 and 344.78, respectively
  • Earns his 13th Diver of the Week award and the first of the season
  • Last Purdue Diver of the Week: Steele Johnson (Jan. 25, 2017)

Male Freshman of the Week
Ryan Lawrence, Purdue
Birmingham, Mich. – Seaholm

  • Place first in all three of his events in the Boilermaker’s dual against Miami (Ohio)
  • Won the 50 freestyle in 21.40, and took first in the 200 medley relay (1:32.08) and the 400 freestyle relay (3:05.07)
  • Earns his first Freshman of the Week award
  • Last Purdue Freshman of the Week: Brandon Loschiavo (Dec. 23, 2016)
