CG Sports Management announced today a formal partnership between their client, USA National Team member Leah Smith, and Barings, one of the world’s leading asset management firms, headquartered in Charlotte.

In the 2016 Olympic Games, Smith confirmed her ability as one of the top distance swimming talents in the world. She won an individual Olympic Bronze medal in the 400-meter freestyle and earned a gold as a part of the 4×200-meter freestyle relay. This summer at the 2017 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, Smith’s success continued and she secured the opportunity to represent Team USA. Leah qualified for the meet in the 200-meter freestyle, 400-meter freestyle, 800-meter freestyle, 1500-meter freestyle, 400-meter Individual Medley and 4×200-meter freestyle relay. She posted her best time in the 800-meter freestyle, earning a bronze medal for the event as well as earning a silver medal in her signature event, the 400-meter freestyle. In addition, Leah was able to assist Team USA in winning a gold medal in the 4×200-meter freestyle relay.

“I’m extremely excited to be a part of team Barings through 2020. They are a leader in their industry and their theme of adaptability aligns with my Olympic journey,” said Smith. “Barings is a team-focused organization, and I’m honored to be part of another world-class team outside of the pool.”

As a collegiate athlete, Smith competed for the University of Virginia, where she was a four-time NCAA champion, the most individual titles of any athlete ever at the University of Virginia. Leah comes from a long line of elite athletes including her great-grandfather, Jimmy Smith, a World Series champion and great uncle Billy Conn, World Light Heavyweight boxing champion.

“Leah is an exceptional athlete whose dedication to her teammates and willingness to adapt to achieve her goals aligns perfectly with Barings’ core values,” added Tom Finke, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer at Barings. “We are very pleased to partner with Leah and support her in her quest for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.”
