Men 1000 Freestyle

Dant won the 1000 in dominant fashion as the only man under nine minutes. He came in under his seed time in 8:57.37 and just off the meet record set in 2011 by Nicholas Caldwell in 8:55.55.

Sarasota’s Arik Katz was in the race through the first 300, but he could not hang on to the consistency of Ross Dant. Katz fought for second place honors with a four and a half second drop of 9:04.41. Teammate Nico Hernandez-Tome dropped over 14 seconds for third in 9:07.32. The two were nearly even through the 700 but Katz was able to pull away in the end. Brendan Firlie, also of Sarasota, was fifth in 9:11.71.

Somerset’s Matt Fallon broke up the Sarasota madness with his fourth place swim of 9:09.65. Boise’s Jackson Cunningham was sixth in 9:12.81 while Fanwood Scotch’s Josh Cohen was next in 9:15.15 and North Oakland’s Graham Miotke was eighth in 9:18.58.
