Latvian Record Holder Kristina Steins Transfers to Toronto’s York University

Kristina Steins, former Louisville Cardinal, former Canadian national team member and current Latvian national team member and national record holder in all the backstroke events for Latvia will be transferring to York University in Toronto, Ontario this fall. She will be representing Latvia at FINA World Championships this summer, her current best times are as follows:

Steins is at the scoring level in all the above events at USport and could be the first women to score points at the Championship level in over a decade for the Lions.

Steins will be reunited with Coach Derek McGregor who was one of the assistant coaches for Steins in 2012 and 2013 when she was representing Canada and World Championship and Jr. Pan Pacs. When asked about Steins coming to York University McGregor said,

“A swimmer of Kristina’s abilities is a great addition not only to our team but the OUA in general. I expect great things from Kristina this year in and out of the pool to help lead the rebuild of the York Lions team.”
