Australia’s Kyle Chalmers18, executed his debut onto the FINA World Cup stage in record fashion with a new World Junior record in the men’s 100 free.

The first final of each stop of the FINA World Cup is the men’s 100 free and Chalmers heated up the pool by easily sliding past the benchmark time that FINA had set for the SCM event, stopping the clock at a 46.61.

The previous men’s 100 freestyle World Junior Record was a time of 47.20, however FINA has no name associated with the time. This is because when FINA began recognizing short course meter records in January of 2015 they simply set “benchmarks” for times. As those benchmark times are bypassed the record book begins to fill with names.

Chalmers made his Olympic debut at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games where he out-swam the competition in the men’s 100 free to claim Olympic gold.
