Kristof Milak and Szebasztian Szabo won their third titles in as many days with victories in the 200 free and 50 fly respectively at the Hungarian Short-Course Championships in Kaposvár.

Milak holds Olympic, world and European titles in the long-course pool in contrast to a sole silver medal at the 2021 continental championships.

On Friday, Milak was second at halfway, 0.32 behind Richárd Márton before a second 100 of 52.48 (26.67/25.81) propelled him to gold in 1:43.54.

Marton was next home in 1:44.37.

He returned to finish second in the 50 fly, with Szabo winning 22.05 to 22.45 as he added to his golds in the 50 back and 50 free in which he edged Milak 21.01 to 21.03.

Milak said through musz.hu:

“I would say (it was a) medium time, it was pretty good. I swam 26 fifty all the way, it’s not so bad after all.

“I would describe the 50 butterfly in the same way, I wasn’t so fresh there – the 200 was fast, so the third day took a lot out of me.”

Milak won the 100 free on the opening night in 46.72 and the 200 fly on Thursday in 1:49.86.

While the pair have enjoyed a medal-laden meet so far at the Csík Ferenc Competition Stadium, Hubert Kos became the swiftest Hungarian in the 100IM on Thursday.

Kos, part of Bob Bowman‘s training group at Arizona State, stopped the clock at 52.82 to slice 0.18 off David Hodhazi’s 53.00 mark which had stood since 2017.

Other notable performances on Friday came from Zsuzsanna Jakabos, who won the 400IM in 4:36.56, 19 years after her first national title in 2003.

Nikolett Pádár won the women’s 200 free after silvers over 100 and 400.
