Olympic gold medalist and Illinois-native Kevin Cordes threw out the ceremonial first pitch at the Chicago Cubs game against the Cincinnati Reds Tuesday evening.

Just a month after returning from Rio where he qualified for the finals of the men’s 100 and 200 breast and won a gold for his efforts on the prelims leg of the 400 medley relay, Cordes tossed a strike to Cubs rookie pitcher Rob Zastryzny before the Cubs crushed the Reds, 6-1.

The Cubs, who have not won the World Series since 1908, have a record of 96-55, by far the best in Major League Baseball.
