Kenyon College Invitational, Day One

GAMBIER, Ohio, February 10. FRIDAY evening's session of the Kenyon College Invitational swayed heavily in favor of the host Lords. Although just five swimming events and one diving event were held, the Lords piled up 397 first-place points and pulled away from Denison University, which logged 186 points.
The two-day Invitational will finish up with two more sessions Saturday. The first session is slated to start at 10 a.m. and the second will get underway around 1 p.m. Some team members from Wittenberg University, Ohio Wesleyan University, and Pace University are also competing at the Invitational, but only taking part in the unscored time trails, which are being held at the end of each one the three sessions.

The Lords racked up huge point swings in two relay events that went uncontested. In the 200-yard freestyle relay Ian Richardson (Mount Vernon, OH/Mount Vernon), Zack Turk (Strongsville, OH/St. Edward), David Somers (North Potomac, MD/Quince Orchard), and Curtis Ramsey (Wilmington, DE/Charter School of Wilmington) clocked in at 1:29.61. In the 400-yard medley relay Kyle McDonald (Overland Park, KS/Blue Valley West), Brad Cowan (Grafton, WI/Marquette (MI)), Alex Hoffman (Fremont, OH/Fremont Ross), and Frank Brown (Pittsburgh, PA/Shady Side Academy) teamed up to post a time of 3:41.24.

In individual events, Kenyon freshman Joseph Guilfoyle (Pittstown, NJ/Delbarton / Peddie (NJ)) took the crown in the 500-yard freestyle. He clocked in at 4:33.59, which cleared the NCAA 'B' cut. Senior Ian Bakk (McFarland, WI/McFarland) won the 200-yard individual medley in 1:53.97 and Richardson took the 50-yard freestyle in 20.79. Both Bakk's and Richardson's times also cleared the NCAA 'B' cuts.
