Kentucky vs. Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky, February 3. WINNING every race but four, the University of Louisville men's and women's swimming and diving teams swept archrival University of Kentucky as the Cardinal seniors bade farewell to the Ralph Wright Natatorium in the final home meet of the season. The men won 188-107 with the women prevailing 183-107.

"We are very pleased with the way we competed to honor our seniors," said U of L head coach Arthur Albiero. "It was a bittersweet day for me because this group of seniors has had a tremendous improvement in the development of our program so far. Our goal today was to race with a championship mindset and we accomplished that on many levels. "

The Cardinals hope to ride this momentum into the BIG EAST Championships that begin February 15 in Pittsburgh.

"This sets us up for momentum going forward as we strive to earn our sports in the NCAA Championship," said Albiero.

The Cardinals were paced by triple winners Brendon Andrews (100-back, 200-medley relay, 400-free relay), Joao De Lucca (200-free, 100-free and 400-Free Relay). Double event winners for the men were: Kameron Chastain (200-medley relay, 100-breast), Pedro Oliveira (200-fly, 200-back), and Carlos Almeida (200-breast, 200-IM). For the women, the Cardinals were paced by Fanny Lilliestrom (100-breast, 200-breast), Tanja Killiainen (200-fly, 200-back), Victoria Mitchell (200-back, 500-free) and Raine Thompson (200-medley relay, 100-fly.)

In the 200-medley relay, the foursome of Mary Mittel, Lindsay Rogers, Raine Thompson and Aileen Cole combined to post a 1:42.59 for a first place and a NCAA B-cut time. The men won in 1:28.75 with Brendon Andrews (22.29), Kameron Chastain (24.39), Tim Collins (22.27) and Matt Schlytter (19.80) for the NCAA B-cut time.

In the grueling 1000-free, Abby Chin touched in 10:02.87 to lead the sweep with Lindsey LaPorte touching second in 10:12.74 and Erika Wozniak scoring third place points with a time of 10:17.71 For the men, Charlie Bolgan (9:25.55), led the sweep followed by Riley Martin (9:33.55) and Michael Pryor (9:37.29).
In the women's 200-free, Eszter Povazsay lunged to the wall for the first place time of 1:51.18. Victoria Mitchell was second , going 1:51.30. Breann McDowell finished the trifecta with a time of 1:51.62. Joao DeLucca stretched to the wall for the first going 1:37.31 for an NCAA B-Cut. Alex Burtch was third with a time of 1:39.95.

In the 100-back, Mary Mittel was first with a time of 56.76 with Krissie Brandenburg hitting the wall second in 56.85, Raine Thompson was third with a time of 57.47. For the men, Brendon Andrews went a blazing 48.77 for the win, followed by teammate, Caryle Blondell, who was second in 51.03.

In the 100-breast, Fanny Lilliestrom took the event with a time of 1:03.35 with Gisselle Kohoyda touching second in 1:04.75. For the men, Kameron Chastain NCAA B-cut time of 54.81 followed by Kenny Crapse's second place swim of 56.63 with Michael Haefner making it a sweep with a time of 56.91.

In the 200-fly, Tanja Killiainen set a pool record with an NCAA B cut time of 1:58.27 for the win. For the men, Pedro Oliveira had an NCAA B-cut time of 1:47.48 with teammate Juan Lopez touching second in 1:51.64.

In the 50-free, UK's Megan Eppler was first with a time of 23.36, just out-touching U of L's Aileen Cole, who went 23.41 for second. For the men, Matt Schlytter touched first with a time of 20.48 with Caryle Blondell in hot pursuit, touching in 20.59.

In the women's 100-free, Megan Eppler won for the Cats with a 50.84 with Cardinal Aileen Cole taking second in 51.25. For the men, Joao De Lucca held off UK's Tyler Reed for first with a time of 44.65, Brendon Andrews was third in a tight finish with a time of 44.83.

In the 200-back, Victoria Mitchell led wire to wire with a time of 1:59.48 almost ten seconds ahead of the rest of the field. For the men, Pedro Oliveira was first with an NCAA B-Cut time of 1:45.79 with teammate Juan Lopez touching second in 1:51.10.

Fanny Lilliestrom got her second individual win with an NCAA B-cut time of 2:14.77 for a first in the 200-breast, followed by teammate Gisselle Kohoyda's 2:16.56's second place. Stephanie Juncker held on for third with a time of 2:22.77. For the men, Carlos Almeida's was a blazing time 1:58.89 for an NCAA B-cut. Kameron Chastain was second in 2:02.14.

In the 500-free, Victoria Mitchell won with a time of 4:57.30 with Abby Chin in her wake with a second place touch of 4:58.90. Lindsey LaPorte made it a sweep with a time of 5:00.96. Michael Pryor won the men's event with a time of 4:35.78 followed by senior Riley Martin's 4:38.33.

In the men's 1-meter diving, UK's Greg Ferrucci posted the top score of 353.17. Nikolas Sachs was the top U of L scorer with a third place score of 285.82. U of L's Hannah Gadd took first with a score of 306.82.

In the 3-meter, Christa Cabot was first with a score of 315.30 with U of L's Hannah Gadd placing second with a score of 301.88. Lindsey Stephens was third with a 280.51. In the men's event, Greg Ferrucci made it a sweep with a score of 366.30 for UK.

Raine Thompson won the 100-fly with a time of 55.38, followed by Tanja Killiainen's second place time of 56.02, with Dani Barbiea completing the sweep with a third place time of 56.89. Pedro Oliveira's 49.60 was just out-touched in the men's event by Lucas Gerotto's 49.33. But Tim Collins went third with a time of 50.53.

The Cardinal women had a trifecta in the 200-IM led by Tanja Killiainen (2:02.43) followed by Fanny Lilliestrom's 2:05.13 with Stephanie Juncker cruising in at 2:06.38. For the men, Carlos Almeida got his second win with a 1:50.57 with Alex Burtch touching second in 1:51.73 and Albert Lloyd making it a sweep with a 1:52.40.

In the final event of the afternoon, the UK 400-free relay team of Christina Betchel, Abby Myers, Lindsay Lash and Anna Maddox took first with a time of 3:26.27. The U of L men took their relay when Samuel Hoekstra (45.25), Joao De Lucca (44.94), Caryle Blondell 43.40) and Brendon Andrews (44.19) combined for a time of 2:57.78 for an NCAA B cut.
