Kelly Pash Best Time in 100 Back Leads Texas Sweep of SMU

Kelly Pash set a best time in the 100 backstroke to get into the Top 10 in Texas history and lead the Longhorns to a sweep of SMU on Friday.

Texas’s No. 2 ranked women’s team coasted to a 146-109 decision on Senior Day in Austin. The men’s team, ranked fifth, claimed a 181-83 victory.

Pash went 52.57 to win the 100 back. That’s a best time for her and the ninth-fastest time in program history. It led a 1-2-3 finish with Sienna Schellenger and Grace Cooper. Pash and Cooper also joined Anna Elendt and Olivia Bray in winning the 200 medley relay in 1:36.98.

Bray won the 100 free in 49.75 seconds. Bridget Semenuk claimed the 50 free in 22.43, ahead of teammate Ava Longi. That duo teamed with Emma Sticklen and Ellie McLeod to post the best time in the 400 free relay.

Olivia McMurray won the 200 free, and Lindsey Hosch claimed the 100 breaststroke in the front half of the meet. Chase Davison (200 backstroke) and Ella Myers (500 free) claimed back-half wins. Texas won both diving events, with Janie Boyle winning 1-meter and Hailey Hernandez capturing 3-meter. Bridget O’Neil was second in both.

Luana Alonso won twice for SMU. The Paraguayan Olympian and Virginia Tech transfer claimed the 200 butterfly and 100 fly. Ashley Lugbill won the 200 breast, and Lucrezia Napoletano was second in the 50 free and 200 free and third in the 100 free for the Mustangs.

On the men’s side, Carson Foster crept into the top 10 all-time in Texas history by going 1:53.77 in the 200 breast. He also won the 100 back in 45.94 and swam a leg on the Texas relay that posted the top time in the 400 free relay. Jake Foster won the 200 fly in 1:44.15 and set a season-best time of 4:18.46 to win the 500 free.

Caspar Corbeau won the 50 free in 19.61 and then claimed the 200 individual medley in 1:44.96 (over a field that included his younger brother Angus Corbeau, an SMU sophomore.) The IM time is a season-best for Corbeau, who won the 200 medley relay in swimming butterfly.

Luke Hobson won the 100 free in 2.58 and the 100 fly in 47.74, both personal-bests. Ethan Harder won the 200 back, Spencer Arnau-Rhees the 200 free. Nick Harris swept the diving events.

SMU’s only win came in the 100 breast via Colin Feehery, who was second in the 200 breast and 200 IM.
