The 2021 European Short-Course Championships are set to go ahead in Kazan despite the Russian ban from hosting major sporting events handed down as part of the CAS ruling last week.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport suspended Russia from competing in major sporting events until 16 December 2022 after halving the initial four-year suspension made by the World Anti-Doping Agency.

Part of that ruling was that Russia will not able to host any major events during that time.

However, European governing body LEN has confirmed to Swimming World that Kazan can stage the continental event from 2-7 November 2021 as the ban applies only to the Olympic and Paralympic Games and global championships.

This was decided following an online meeting of the LEN Bureau over the weekend.
