Katinka Hosszu clocked the second-fastest January 400 IM ever with a 4:34.33 to set the meet record in the women’s 400-meter IM at the 2016 Luxembourg Euro Meet.

That swim missed the January record of 4:33.64 set by Aimee Willmott during the 2014 Speedo Flanders Cup.  It wiped out Hosszu’s previous meet mark of 4:37.93 also from 2014.

Hannah Miley placed second today in 4:40.76 with Zsuzsanna Jakabos earning third in 4:41.35.  Spain’s Mireia Belmonte wound up fourth in 4:42.58.

Belmonte fired back in the women’s 800-meter free with a meet-record time of 8:28.82.  That swim cleared Hosszu’s 2014 meet record of 8:29.42 and won the event by several seconds.

Maria Vilas claimed second tonight in 8:31.51, while Hosszu wilted a bit into third with an 8:37.59.

Laszlo Cseh collected the men’s 400-meter IM meet record with a 4:17.41.  That swim lowered the 4:18.46 set by Ioannis Drymonakos back in 2012.  Raphael Stacchiotti finished second in 4:18.94 with Drymonakos earning third in 4:19.93.

Cseh led the way in the men’s 200-meter fly prelims as well with a 1:59.76 for the top seed heading into tomorrow’s finals.  Drymonakos (2:00.11) and Brendan Hyland (2:00.46) qualified second and third.

Mykhailo Romanchuk picked up the men’s 1500-meter free title in 15:06.15.  That swim smashed the previous meet record of 15:13.48 set by Thomas Lurz back in 2008.  Jan Micka took second in 15:08.52 with Marc Sanchez snaring third in 15:14.18.

In preliminary action, Judith Ignacio topped the women’s 200-meter fly in a time of 2:09.54 with Franziska Hentke just behind in 2:09.57.  Both swims cleared the previous meet record of 2:10.08 set by Zsuzsanna Jakabos last year.  Jakabos qualified third in 2:10.67 with Hosszu making her way into the finale with a seventh-seeded 2:13.69.

Simon Hengel (51.74), Nina Kost (55.80), Philip Heintz (49.93) and Tina Rueger (59.21) won the mixed 400 free relay with a time of 3:36.68.
