Katinka Hosszu continued the meet record streak with one of her own in the 200 IM at the 2019 Sette Colli Trophy in Rome. Hosszu swam a 2:08.28 to get under the meet record of 2:09.01 she set this morning. Hosszu lowered her season best of 2:08.50 that she had at the FINA Champions Series in Indianapolis in May. She was off her world record of 2:06.12 from 2015 but she is in a much better place than she was in 2018, only managing a 2:10 at Europeans last summer.

With four weeks to go until the 2019 World Championships, Hosszu is looking to win her fourth straight 200 IM world title. Only Hosszu (400 IM) and Sarah Sjostrom (100 fly) have ever won the same event at the World Championships four times. A couple other swimmers have a chance to join that club this summer including Katie Ledecky (400, 800, 1500 free), Sun Yang (400, 800 free) and Federica Pellegrini (200 free).

Hosszu is currently leading the world rankings for 2019 ahead of Canada’s Sydney Pickrem (2:08.61) and Japan’s Yui Ohashi (2:09.14).

Japan’s Rika Omoto (2:09.73) was second as she improved on her season best of 2:09.91 from April to sit fifth in the world for 2019. Switzerland’s Maria Ugolkova (2:12.12) was third.
