Katie Ledecky Swims Routine 3:59 400 Free in Mission Viejo; Yeadon Takes Men’s Race at Callan

Katie Ledecky continued to make distance swimming look easy as she swam a 3:59.25 in the 400 freestyle on Saturday morning at the TYR Pro Swim Series in April, which is her 20th time under the 4:00 mark. Ledecky finished well in front of the reigning Olympic bronze medalist Leah Smith at 4:06.37, who swam a season best, lowering her 4:07 from March.

Ledecky was challenged on the first 100 as Arizona State’s Emma Nordin was out in a 57.6 compared to Ledecky’s 57.5, and a 1:59.1 on the first 200 – not far off her individual 200 free on Friday where she was a 1:58.9 in finals. But the world record holder took over on the middle 200, splitting under 31 on each 50.

Ledecky was a 1:58.0 halfway and 2:59.3 at the 300, coming home in a 29.3 on the final 50 to get under 4:00 for the 20th time in her career.

Hali Flickinger out-touched Nordin for third at 4:08.05 to Nordin’s 4:08.08 as the latter was a 4:07 last night in the heats.

Joanna Evans finished in fifth (4:09.01) ahead of Tokyo Olympian Haley Anderson (4:11.53).

Cal’s Zach Yeadon and Michigan’s Patrick Callan got in a good race in the men’s 400 with Yeadon coming out on top at 3:51.57 to Callan’s 3:51.81. Jordan Wilimovsky, who won the 800 already at this meet and is already on the Olympic team for the 10K, finished in third at 3:51.95 as he ran out of room on the final 100.

Yeadon is now the second fastest American in 2021 behind Kieran Smith.

Early leader Chris Wieser, who was out first through 300 meters, finished in fourth at 3:53.24 ahead of Mission Viejo’s Will Gallant (3:53.44), who was second in the 800 on Thursday.
