Katie Ledecky Pops Another Impressive Time at Orlando Sectionals; Caeleb Dressel Zooms to 50 Freestyle Win

Dominant performances from Katie Ledecky have been the norm over the weekend at the Southern Zone South Sectional Championships in Orlando, with the American star’s latest excellence arriving in the 400-meter freestyle. With victories already earned in the 200 freestyle and 800 freestyle, Ledecky prevailed over eight laps on Saturday night, on the strength of a time of 4:00.95.

Ledecky opened with a 100 split of 58.45 and came through the 200-meter mark in 1:59.94. She was at 3:00.86 through 300 meters and closed with a split of 1:00.09. Now representing Gator Swim Club and training under the eye of Anthony Nesty, Ledecky was expected to shine in the 400 freestyle. After all, she was coming off an 8:11 triumph in the 800 freestyle and a 1:54-mid showing in the 200 freestyle in Orlando. Both of those performances were faster than what Ledecky clocked last summer at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

While Ledecky controlled her distance race, countryman Caeleb Dressel ruled the sprint. The Olympic champion dipped under the 22-second barrier to prevail in 21.89, with Olympic bronze medalist Bruno Fratus of Brtazil going 22.20 for second place. American Michael Andrew, who was a finalist at the Tokyo Games, touched in third in 23.32. Dressel added to his earlier meet victories in the 50 butterfly, 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly.

The women’s 50 freestyle went to American Natalie Hinds in 25.45, and Andrew won the 200 individual medley in 2:00.51.
