Katherine Drabot Snags Six Records at Day Two of Minneapolis Sectionals

Katherine Drabot of Ozaukee Aquatics started day two of the Minneapolis Sectionals off with a new pool and meet record in the women’s 200-meter free. Drabot’s time of 1:59.25 replaced her own meet record of 2:01.52 from 2014 and Abby Jagdfeld’s pool record of 2:00.80, also from 2014. Danielle Valley of Wisconsin Aquatics finished second with a time of 2:02.05, while teammate Dana Grindall took third with a 2:02.70.

The speed continued as Matthew Hutchins of Wisconsin Aquatics took down both the pool and meet record in the men’s 200-meter free with a time of 1:49.76. The previous records of 1:49.87 were both owned by Michael Weiss. Teammate Cannon Clifton grabbed second with a final time of 1:50.49, while Charles Cole of Nasa Wildcat Aquatics finished third overall with a 1:51.46.

Drabot held nothing back in the women’s 400-meter IM claiming both the pool and meet records in that event as well with a final time of 4:50.12. The previous pool record was a 4:51.28 set in 2012 by Monika Stitski, while Hannah Kastigar set the meet record of 4:50.90 in 2013. Kastigar claimed second overall in the event with a final time of 4:54.80, while Jennifer Holtzen of Wisconsin Aquatics rounded out the top three with a 4:55.31.

Jae Park of Nasa Wildcat Aquatics claimed first in the men’s 400-meter IM with a final time of 4:27.93. Club Hawkeye’s Christopher Dawson finished second overall with a time of 4:29.21, while John Larson of Edina Swim Club was third with a 4:34.20.

Madison Aquatics’ Elizabeth Nelson dashed to new pool and meet records in the women’s 100-meter back. Nelson’s time of 1:02.28 replaces Ashlyn Schoof’s 2014 pool record of 1:02.58 and Zoe Avestruz’s 2013 meet record of 1:02.46. Avestruz ended up with second overall in the event with a finishing time of 1:03.27. Mickayla Hinkle of St. Croix Swim Club took third with a 1:03.42.

Daryl Turner of Minnesota Aquatics turned in a time of 55.88 for first in the men’s 100-meter back. Wisconsin Aquatics’ Austin Byrd touched second with a 56.27, while Nicholas Petersen of Schroeder YMCA was third with a 56.50.

The relay team of Skylar Fore, Drabot, Mallory Fox and Amanda Siehs from Ozaukee Aquatics grabbed first in the women’s 400-meter free relay with a sizzling 3:47.14. The foursome also snagged the pool and meet records which Wisconsin Aquatics set in 2014 with a 3:47.16. Wisconsin Aquatics finished second in the event with a final time of 3:49.46, while Aquajets Swim Team turned in a 3:50.76 for third.

Wisconsin Aquatics’ Ryan Barsanti (51.41), Clifton (49.77), Hutchins (51.05) and Ryan Stack (50.44) claimed first in the men’s 400-meter free relay with a smooth 3:22.67. Club Hawkeye grabbed second with a time of 3:26.70, while Wisconsin Aquatics’ ‘B’ relay was third with a 3:32.65.
