The award is an extension of the National Collegiate Swimmer of the Week (NCSW) honors given out by CollegeSwimming.com across three divisions of NCAA competition.

Smit joined Brenno Varanda of Binghamton as the DI winners, while Kate Inozemtseva of Fairmont State and Radu Badalac of Oachita Baptist won the DII award. Mitchell and Denison's Liv Zaleski garnered DIII honors.

Smit led Stanford to a 177-123 triumph over California with three wins in the 200 free, 500 free and 200 back. She also helped the 400 free relay to a win as the anchor leg.
