Johns Hopkins Earns Verbal From Illinois State Champ Jeff Vitek

NEW COMMIT: Jeff Vitek of Western Springs, Illinois, has given Johns Hopkins University his verbal commitment to swim for the Blue Jays beginning in the 2018-2019 season. He’s a senior at Lyons Township North High School and trains with WEST Swim Club.

He told Swimming World,

“I chose Johns Hopkins because of the beautiful campus, excellent academics, and determined coaches to help me reach my potential. On my visit, I felt like a perfect fit and the entire team was very inviting. I am proud to be a Blue Jay and can’t wait for next year! Go Hop!”

In three years Vitek has put together an impressive high school swimming resume. The Lyons have won two high school state championships. A USA Swimming Scholastic All-American, Vitek was a memeber of the school’s state record setting 200 medley relay and is also a school record holder.

Vitek, a Winter Junior National qualifier, is a butterflier. His best times include:

200 Fly 1:51.44
100 Fly 50.82
50 Fly 23.39
400 IM 4:10.46
200 IM 1:57.70

Last year Vitek would have been third on the Blue Jays’ team’s depth chart in the 200 fly. He also would have been fourth in the 100 fly. Since leaving the Bluegrass Mountain Conference, the Blue Jays do not have a Conference Championship, but Vitek’s best time is only a second and a half shy of what it took to make Division III NCAAs last year (1:49.90) in the 200 fly. The team sent a group to UNC Chapel Hill’s Nike Invitational as a season ending meet. There, Vitek would have finished seventh in the 200 fly.
