John Klinge Joins Ohio State Men’s Swimming as New Assistant Coach

COLUMBUS, Ohio – September 27. JOHN Klinge has been named an assistant coach for the Ohio State men's swim team, head coach Bill Wadley announced.

"I cannot think of a better person to have as an assistant coach for our team." Wadley, who is entering his 16th year as coach of the Buckeyes, said. "I enjoyed the opportunity to coach John a few summers while he was in high school and have a tremendous respect for John as a coach."

Klinge, who has expertise coaching the technical side of swimming, joins Ohio State from Bozeman High School and the Bozeman Barracuda Swim Club in Bozeman, Mont., where he was head coach for both organizations from 2000-04. During this tenure, Klinge coached 11 individual state champions and two United States Open qualifiers.

"I am extremely excited to be part of Ohio State Swimming." Klinge said. "I feel extremely lucky to work with someone of coach Wadley's caliber and to be a part of a program with such a tremendous tradition."

Klinge, a 1994 graduate from Purdue University, qualified for the 1992 Olympic trials and earned All-American honors in 1991. He also was the Purdue swim team captain from 1992-94 and garnered All-Big Ten honors in both 1990 and 1994. He graduated from Purdue with a bachelor's of science in civil engineering. He trained with Wadley when he swam for the Spartan Swim Club in East Lansing, Mich. He graduated from Richmond High School in Richmond, Ind., in 1989.

Klinge is a commissioned officer for the United States Marine Corp. He has received a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for work as a platoon commander while deployed in the Pacific Ocean. He received a second achievement medal for meritorious performance as a battalion fire direction officer.

Klinge is married to the former Chris Anderson who also swam for Purdue University and is currently the coach of Dublin Swim Club. They have a son, Jack, who is 2 years old.
