John Hargis, ’96 Olympian, to Coach Raleigh Swim Association

RALEIGH, NC, May 17. THE Raleigh Swimming Association announced yesterday it has hired 1996 Atlanta US Olympic swimmer, John Hargis, as coach for its Junior (11-13) group.

Hargis is an Auburn graduate who helped lead the Tigers to the NCAA title in 1997. He finished first at the US Olympic Trials in 1996 in the 100 meter fly defeating a stellar field to make the US team. He went on to finish 16th in the 100 fly at the Olympics and earned a gold medal as part of the US 400 Medley relay team.

RSA finished fifth at the Age Group Sectionals and third at the Senior Sectionals back in March.

"We are very excited to have John come to work with us here at RSA and we feel he will be a valuable addition to our staff. His enthusiasm has has already spread to the swimmers as he has worked very hard to get to know each of them," commented RSA Head Coach Paul Silver.
