Joan Casanovas and Silja Kansakoski will join the Arizona State team in January, according to a tweet from Head Coach Bob Bowman.

Kansakoski heads to Tempe from Finland. The breaststroker has been as fast as 1:08.82 in the 100 meter breaststroke and 2:33.66 in the long course 200. While the adjustment to yards training and racing is never simple, those times convert to 1:00.56 in the 100 and 2:16.45 in the 200. At last February’s women’s Pac-12 Championships, that 100 time would have scored in the A final while her 200 would have finished in the C final.

Casanovas will join the Sun Devils from Spain. His best long course times come in the 200 (1:50.05), 400 (3:52.19), and 800 (8:09.67) freestyles as well as the 200 (2:02.66) and 400 IM (4:21.26). That 200 freestyle converts to a 1:36 low, while the IMs turn out to be roughly 1:46 low and 3:45 high.

At the 2015 Pac-12 Championships, that would have been an A final 400 IM and a B final scoring 200 freestyle and 200 IM.
